Over 1,500 residents affected by tower fire

A fire which broke out on the top floor of a 52-storey residential tower in Sharjah’s Al Nahda on Sunday resulted in five fatalities and 19 injuries, Sharjah Police confirmed yesterday.

The building is home to more than 1,500 residents of several nationalities. In the aftermath of the fire, many families on the affected floor were left without a home or belongings. Residents were not allowed to enter the building until operations to ensure the building's safety were completed.

Authorities have since allowed residents to return to their apartments. Those whose apartments were destroyed in the fire, have reportedly been given other apartments in the same building.
