Indian markets cheer GST reforms, rupee up

Scheme to create 35 million jobs over the next two years adds to optimism

The Indian stock markets and the rupee have firmed up as investor sentiments got a boost from the proposed reforms to the Goods and Service Tax (GST).

A newly announced scheme to create as many as 35 million jobs over the next two years also added to the optimism.

The Sensex was up 370 points to 81,644, while the Nifty 50 was over 100 points higher to 24,980 just ahead of close yesterday. This is the second consecutive day of gains for the Indian markets, with the Sensex up 676.09 points, or 0.84 per cent on Monday.
