Extra-time drama as Drybrook win

DRYBROOK lifted the Forest of Dean Combination Senior Cup with a 37-27 extra-time win over Cinderford United.

It keeps Drybrook on course to complete a treble this season after winning the Regional 2 Severn title, and reaching the papa John’s Cup semi-finals.

They had to come from behind on Sunday and left it late to seal a 27-27 draw after 80 minutes of play.

Haydn Lewis opened the scoring for Drybrook after seven minutes with a penalty from the 22 after Cinderford were forced to hold onto the ball on the ground.

Cinderford hit back with a converted try after Drybrook had lost possession after being put under pressure in the scrum.

The ball did not go to hand from a Drybrook pass and Cinderford winger Gabriel Roberts was able to pounce on the loose ball and score near the posts.

Luke McMahon added the conversion to give his team a 7-3 lead.

Drybrook retook the lead within minutes of the restart, driving Cinderford off their own ball at the scrum and moving the ball wide where the agility of Lewis saw him over the line to score.
