India-EU free trade talks advance to political level

No more formal round of talks, EC says ahead of Goyal’s visit to Brussels

INDIA AND THE European Union (EU) will now remain in continuous contact at the chief negotiators’ level as the deadline fora free trade agreement (FTA) approaches, though a breakthrough remains elusive.

However, there will be no more formal rounds of negotiations, following the conclusion of the 14th round in Brussels on October 10.

Apart from the “continuous intensive” engagement,negotiations at the political level will continue, the European Commission said ina statement.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will bein Brussels this month-end for giving a push to the negotiations.
