Weather-hit £1.4m scheme to protect coast starts

A LONG-awaited coastal protection scheme to safeguard dozens of homes from erosion and cliff falls has finally got under way - after being postponed by poor weather and rough seas.

Contractors have now mobilised at Seaton Hole as part of a £1.4 million project to reinforce the area's vulnerable shoreline. The scheme is being overseen by South West Flood & Coastal, a joint initiative between East Devon District Council and Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council to minimise flood and coastal erosion risks.
Work had originally been scheduled to start in late August but was delayed until September after adverse conditions made sea deliveries unsafe.
