Passenger feared for his life after flight was diverted due to a fault

A flight travelling from Paphos, Cyprus, to Bristol Airport on Saturday, June 14, diverted to Izmir, Turkey, an hour and 20 minutes into the journey.

Jamie Shorland, who had travelled to Cyprus with his friend to see his grandfather, was on the return leg of the journey when he said that smoke alarms went off - although easyJet said that did not happen. However, Jamie said none of the airline staff told passengers what was happening.

The 21-year-old said the flight, which was delayed by 30 minutes initially, took off at 10.30pm and it was when the plane was west of Turkey that he noticed something was wrong.

Jamie said: “The air cabin crew were told to put away the catering trolleys, while we were told no information at all.”

Jamie claimed they were told there would be an emergency landing.
