Mum's 50th birthday joy as hospice staff help throw party

A N East Devon mother who feared missing her 50th birthday celebration due to illness instead enjoyed the party of her dreams thanks to hospice staff and support from friends.
Claire Mincher, from Colyford, had planned to mark her milestone birthday on a Barbados beach. But after being admitted to the Hospiscare ward in Exeter shortly beforehand, her tropical getaway was no longer possible.
Determined not to let the day pass unmarked, hospice staff rallied with Claire's friends to give her a celebration she would never forget.
The event took place on Saturday, April 12, and was originally set to be held on the ward, but a 20-person limit posed challenges.
Claire said: "My friends and the hospice staff began investigating other venues and we were all set to go ahead with a local pub, when my friend got a call back from Winslade Manor - they had a cancellation and were happy to provide the room for free.
