Chiefs' rebuild continues to gain momentum – as I pull on a new pair of boots

A BATTLING second-half fightback from Chiefs and three glorious tries shows in a nailbiter at Sandy Park suggests that we are on the right track as our journey and rebuilding continues to gain momentum.

- CHRIS BENTLEY

It was great to see the ever-youthful Jack Yeandle crashing over to score with the genuinely youthful Paul Brown Bampoe grabbing a brace to add to is increasing tally.

Yes, we came close to upsetting the Premiership status quo on Saturday in a mere two-point 26-24 defeat to the runaway league leaders Bath.

It's a trip to Gloucester up next for Chiefs and another big test for our evolving team, the big fixture of this coming weekend however is closer to home on Devon turf.

Without doubt the game of the coming weekend will be played at Pathfields Park when Majestic South Molton Veterans run out to face the redoubtable talents of Sidmouth Veterans.

A big game indeed for Devon bragging rights that also marks the return after a six-year sabbatical of a rugby legend who once graced the field in Chiefs colours with the 'Originals'.

Those were the days when Exeter Chiefs were ploughing a new furrow defying the critics as we climbed the ranks en route to the Premiership.

Yes, 'Yours Truly' the master of the Samoan sidestep, returns to do battle in a No 4 shirt.

South Molton Veterans have no intent to climb rugby's ranks but we just might add a new tipple to our half time beverage.
