Tackling the housing crisis: 'Awaab's Law' and rights for tenants

MOVES to tackle the housing crisis were at the core of Sir Keir Starmer’s first King’s Speech today.

As well as confirming planning reforms in a bid to build 1.5 million new homes over the next five years, a Renters’ Rights Bill vowed to end “a minority of unscrupulous landlords” preying on tenants.

The plight of renters has been particularly acute in the capital where a two-bed flat costs upward of £1,600 per month in most London boroughs, according to City Hall analysis.

The Government promised to “overhaul” the private rented sector for the 11 million tenants in England.
