No rest for the wicked as focus turns to the Fringe
Edinburgh Evening News
|January 29, 2026
I am deep into programming for the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe at the moment and it's difficult to think of anything else.
As no matter how hard it has become to stage the Fringe year on year, the more applications for shows come in.They all apply in the hope that they will be discovered. Many more remain undiscovered than become stars but that does not deter them coming.
It amazes me every year that hundreds apply to us to come in August to work there damnedest to be noticed. Some become hugely successful and others go away and come back the next year and try again.
I have got to know so many wonderful performers over the years and do my best to support them.
