Join in fun as Dumfries lights up to celebrate countdown to Christmas
Dumfries and Galloway Standard
|November 14, 2025
Dumfries is switching on to Christmas today.
There will be a festive feast of everything from reindeers to illuminated tractors and a Santa parade, organised by the Dumfries Partnership Action Group and supported by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
This year's switch-on also marks the beginning of the Lights of Hope array of white lights around the town and Whitesands-sponsored by Jardine's Funerals and the People's Project-which will remain in place well into the new year, to help brighten the dark, dreary January and February evenings which can be so depressing for many.
Alive 107.3fm's presenter Lee Medd and others from the Dumfries local radio station will be introducing the live acts from 4pm on the Planestanes at the High Street's Midsteeple.
