Veteran overjoyed as town rallies to help furnish his flat

EREWASH council's Armed Forces champion Cllr Kate Fennelly was recently alerted to the plight of an Army veteran who had been living in his car.

She immediately sprang into action, teaming up with Department for Work and Pensions veteran specialist Elizabeth Gaunt, the Royal British Legion and the council's Housing Options team to secure him somewhere safe to live.

The veteran was provided with temporary accommodation while a long-term solution for his homelessness was found.

He now has a flat of his own in Ilkeston. But a flat is just a space - what he needed was a home.
