DEFENDING champion Kyle Ryde pulled out a superb ride to win the third race of the British Superbike Championship weekend at Cadwell Park and take over from Bradley Ray by two points at the top of the standings.

The Nitrous Competitions Racing Yamaha rider from Derbyshire therefore takes his first lead of the season after Ray’s terrific start as they prepare for a four-race weekend at Donington Park in September.

Ryde was second in race two at Cadwell to Tommy Bridewell and second to Ray in race one but when Ray could finish only 12th in race three, Ryde capitalised.

He also lifted the meeting's Pirelli King of the Mountains trophy.

"It’s been a great weekend! It has been long, quite sweaty and that last race was very tough but it was nice to have a good bike under my belt for 12 laps," he said.

"I had great speed and I didn’t really have any moments.

"I even had enough to have a little bit of a dig with three to four laps to go and pull the gap out - so, perfect race really.
