Primark move: Great news for Albion Street, or is it final nail in the coffin for Cornmarket?

PRIMARK'S planned move from a city street to Derby's largest shopping centre has left shoppers fearing footfall could dwindle.

Derbion shopping centre announced this week that the budget brand would be relocating its Derby branch to level one of the centre, at the end of Albion Street.
Once the new shop opens in 2027, the brand is set to vacate its nearby location on Cornmarket, which it has been occupying since 2008. The closure of the Cornmarket branch has been a point of concern for many local residents.
To make way for Primark’s arrival in the shopping centre, Derbion has worked with existing retailers near and around Albion Walk to relocate many of them within the centre.
Brands including Superdrug, H. Samuel, The Perfume Shop and Iceland have recently moved to new spaces within the shopping centre to accommodate for the change.
Primark’s branch on Cornmarket in Derby will remain open for trading as usual until its new space in the Derbion is ready to open.
