Mr Parker, who proudly wore an impressive collection of medals on his chest, said: "I don’t come here every year because of where I served. I was all over Notts and down south, so I've been to different parades.

"My son joined up after me; he did a tour in Afghanistan. That was the hardest time of my life. I took him to RAF Brize Norton, and then gave him a hug in the car park. There were tears.
