Home for Christmas as crash survivor leaves hospital - 19 operations later

SONIA WOKE UP 'FEELING LIKE A RAGDOLL THAT HAD BEEN STITCHED BACK TOGETHER' AFTER COLLISION

AFTER 146 days in hospital, 19 operations and the loss of her husband, a miracle car crash survivor has returned home.

Sonia Meakin was in the passenger seat when her husband had a heart attack while driving their car on the M1 in Nottinghamshire on Friday, July 11.

The 56-year-old midwife woke up from her coma two weeks later in hospital, and that's when she heard the news that her husband, Mark, had died in the crash.

Sonia, from Spondon, described feeling like a “ragdoll that had been stitched back together” after she suffered fractures to a fibula, tibia, both her elbows and wrists, as well as sustaining wounds to her stomach, spleen and diaphragm.

After 19 operations and more than a month in rehabilitation, she finally returned home on Friday to see her grandchildren for Christmas.
