Glittering line-up of writers is set to celebrate city book festival's 10th anniversary

Sixty book-related events will take place at venues across the city including Quad, Derby College, Derby Theatre, Artcore and Derby Museums from Friday, May 23, to Sunday, June 1. Topics range from conspiracy to cricket and railways to running.

Highlights of the bi-annual festival’s summer programme will include Poet Laureate Simon Armitage, Horrible Histories author Terry Deary, poet Hollie McNish, Guardian journalist and author Lucy Mangan, former MP and Home Secretary Alan Johnson, BBC News special correspondent James Naughtie and Parkrun founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt.

The autumn festival will take place from November 14 to 16.

Professor Keith McLay, chair of the festival and deputy vice-chancellor at the University of Derby, said: “Derby Book Festival is a cherished part of our city and region’s cultural life, and 2025 marks a special milestone as the charity celebrates its 10th anniversary.
