Derby second best as they take on Bowdon for first time

DERBY'S winless run continued in Regional 1 North West as they fell to a 22-12 away defeat against Bowdon.

It was the first meeting between these teams after Derby's move from Regional 1 Midlands last summer and Bowdon built a 10-0 halftime lead.

They extended that to 15-0 after the break before Derby finally got on the scoreboard but a converted try for the hosts put the game out of reach, although the visitors pushed strongly at the end, in vain, for a losing bonus point.

Defeat leaves Derby still searching for their first victory since beating Burton on September 13.

"We had opportunities, we missed a kickable penalty early in the game," said Derby head coach Liam Slatem.

"We had other opportunities later in the game but unfortunately couldn't convert.

"One of the themes going into the game was having better discipline and there was definitely improve ment there.
