STOCK VALUED AT £1,200 LOST IN EARLY MORNING BREAK-INS

- By OSCAR FISHER

STAFF at Derbyshire’s 1950s American Diner have been left to pick up the pieces after a gang of thieves broke into the premises over the weekend, stealing more than £1,000 worth of stock - and two trays of eggs.

The owner of the Church Gresley restaurant, Cody Chetwynd, said the people who broke into the family-run business were in for a “good breakfast” after stealing around 50 eggs, bottles of beer and spirits, as well as electronics, on Sunday morning.

The team were alerted to the break-in when Cody's brother, head chef at the diner, arrived for work at around 8am on Sunday, just 50 minutes after the three thieves had taken off with the goods, at 7.10am.

The diner was supposed to open at 9am, and on any other busier day, it would be normal for the chefs to arrive an hour earlier, meaning they were fortunate not to encounter the burglars themselves on Sunday.

Cody, 29, said: “The burglary happened in two stages. Two men broke through a window at around 4am and made a beeline straight for the bar.
