MOTORISTS have been slammed for “putting pedestrians’ lives at risk” after footage showed them driving on the pavement to avoid a Derby road closure - just after children passed by.

Derbyshire County Council leader and Derby councillor Alan Graves furiously hit out at the drivers who were seen via dash-cam footage using the pavement to avoid roadworks at a busy junction on Monday afternoon.

Images show motorists going off-road at Ascot Drive near its junction with Osmaston Road during the afternoon rush-hour.

The first motorist took to the pavement just after children walked past, including one being pushed in a pram.

The junction is one of many busy routes in Derby and often sees long queues during peak times.
