Antie reveals it is the second time a man attempted to rape woman with Down Syndrome

- BY MARSHA DEAN

THE antie of the 22-year-old woman who was abducted and raped in Goodwood last week says it was the second time someone attempted to abuse her niece.

On 17 July, the woman, who has Down Syndrome, was reported missing after visiting a nearby park when she was allegedly lured away by a 49-year-old man who has since been arrested.

The alleged perpetrator took the victim to a guesthouse where rooms are rented out by the hour in Wellington Road, where it is believed that he raped her.

According to the aunt, the ordeal has left the family devastated.

“I have been taking care of my niece since she was seven years old and for years I have been trying to avoid this,” she explained. Her mother passed away and she lived with her father in Transkei where a neighbour also attempted to rape her.
