HOLIDAYMAKERS are desperately booking getaways as they try to escape the big freeze and winter gloom.

Barrhead Travel reported its bestever sales day on Sunshine Saturday, with bookings up by 20% for the week compared with 2023.

The first Saturday of January is typically the most popular day of the year for travel bookings.
