WATCH HAWKEYE CAREFULLY

A RELATIVELY small field of 11 lines up for the first British Classic of the season, the Betfred 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, but there's still plenty of quality.

Field Of Gold is the hot favourite, but WIMBLEDON HAWKEYE (3.35), who admittedly finished behind him in the Craven, is surely being unfairly overlooked in the betting.

The Craven was not a truly run race. Our Par-Time Sectionals suggest that having gone an even gallop over the first three furlongs, the pace suddenly steadied through furlongs four and five, and then Field Of Gold was able to use his rapid turn of foot through the final three furlongs to sprint home.
