1 There are 300 breeds of goats and a total of 900million worldwide. Their bleats have different accents and they’re biologically closer to antelopes than sheep.

2 Goats were first domesticated in ancient Persia 10,000 years ago. The Egyptian pharaoh Cephranes had more than 2,000 goats buried with him.

3 Lusty Greek god Pan was half-goat. In the Middle Ages Christian folk tradition associated Satan with looking like a horny goat. They were even said to whisper saucy words in the ears of the saints.

4 The Chinese Zodiac has a Year of the Goat, while the Norse god Thor had a chariot pulled by goats _ called Toothgnasher and Toothgrinder.

5 Baby goats are called kids and a female goat known as a nanny is said to be kidding” when they give birth. A male goat is known as a buck or a billy. Their lifespan is 15-18 years.
