RORY LONGS TO BRING IT HOME
Daily Star
|July 21, 2025
RORY MCILROY called his second home Open “an awesome week” and said he wants to have the chance to return and win at Royal Portrush.
The Masters champion (right) missed the cut here in 2019 in the first Major in Ulster for 68 years.
But the world No.2 finished tied seventh yesterday after a closing round of 69 - and was given standing ovations from the first tee until the final green.
Mcllroy, 36, said: “I tried as best as I could to keep my emotions in check, especially walking up the last there and that reception.
“It’s been an awesome week. I’ve gotten everything I wanted out of this week apart from a Claret Jug, and that’s just because one person was just a little bit better than the rest of us.
