ROCKET ROD READY FOR TAKE-OFF

ROCKET-FUELLED Rodrigo Gomes proved he can provide the thrust to lift Wolves away from the Premier League relegation zone.

The Portuguese wing-back was a bundle of energy and scored his team's second goal as they doused the FA Cup flames of Bristol City.

It was a second goal in five games for Gomes, 21, who showed why new manager Vitor Pereira believes his young countryman can be key in their quest to retain topflight status.

"The manager has been very good for me since the first day he came in," said Gomes.

"I love to score or make an assist and to help the F team win. The wing-back position suits me because I have the pace and the lungs to do it."

Gomes, who joined Wolves for £12m from Braga last summer, was given only five starts by former Wolves boss Gary O'Neil.
