...but Amorim says Champions League would be a giant leap

- JEREMY CROSS

ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN

RUBEN AMORIM admits he is on a hiding to nothing as Manchester United boss - despite being just one win away from Champions League qualification.

Amorim faces the biggest game of his managerial career next Wednesday when United meet Tottenham in the Europa League final.

The winner-takes-all clash in Bilbao will see the triumphant side book a place among the European elite next season.

Amorim has revealed he would rather secure qualification for the Champions League than get his hands on a big trophy.

But the United boss also feels being in club football's biggest competition will harm his chances of developing his team, which he admits will need major surgery to compete both domestically and in Europe.

Amorim said: "Personally for me, I think Champions League is more important for everything to prepare the next season.
