Old Trafford board split on who to replace Ruben – and when! -

- JEREMY CROSS

MANCHESTER UNITED bosses are divided over who to appoint as the club's next manager - and whether to do it now or in the summer.

Owners the Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have started the search for a new boss following the sacking of Ruben Amorim yesterday after 14 months in charge.

The decision to axe Amorim was taken before Sunday's draw at Leeds, after which the Portuguese opened fire on his employers in an explosive post-match press conference.

But despite taking the decision to show Amorim the door, the powers that be at Old Trafford cannot decide on whether to appoint a permanent replacement now - or wait until the end of the season.

Remarkably, Jurgen Klopp's name was discussed as a potential candidate in the United corridors of power, despite the fact the former Liverpool boss would never consider taking this particular job.

More realistic names in the frame include Oliver Glasner, Enzo Maresca, Laurent Blanc, Xavi, Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel and Zinedine Zidane.
