BRITAIN is set for its fourth by heatwave of the summer, sparking a 31C school holidays getaway meltdown.

After a brief thundery cooldown, a 600-mile-wide "subtropical surge" will blow in from Thursday.

It is set to bring five days of 30C-31C heat as the schools break up.

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: "After a short respite with a couple of days of unsettled weather, it looks like the fourth heatwave of summer is on the way.

"Subtropical air is expected from Thursday, lasting for the weekend, with highs around or just above 30C."
