Farewell to Corrie fave, I say farewell

CORRIE legend John Savident - who starred as butcher Fred Elliott for more than a decade on the soap-has died aged 86.

The actor who passed away on Wednesday was hailed as establishing himself "in the pantheon of Coronation Street greats" His agent said: "We are sad to announce the death of John Savident.

"He was a much-loved husband and father of two and he will be sorely missed by all who knew him." John's Corrie co-star Sue Nicholls, 80, who was one of his on-screen lovers as Audrey Roberts, led the tributes.
