Howe firing blanks as he fails to top his Cherries

EDDIE HOWE'S wait for a win against his former club Bournemouth goes on after a drab goalless draw.

The point sees the Cherries continue their strong start to the season, while the Magpies have now recorded four clean sheets in their opening five games, but are still struggling for goals.

Howe's team have failed to score in any of their three games on the road so far this season.

And they never looked like breaking their duck in a clash of very few chances for either side.

Howe has now not beaten his former side in seven Premier League attempts, though the last time he travelled to the Vitality Stadium after playing in Europe, the Cherries won 2-0.

So on the plus side, this may prove a handy point for Newcastle against a Bournemouth team that would have gone second had they nicked it.

That they did not was largely down to Nick Pope.

The Toon keeper secured his fourth clean sheet from five league games to suggest he is still at international standard ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
