BOSSES AGREE REF WAS SPOT ON

EDDIE HOWE and Fabian Hurzeler both praised VAR after Newcastle had two penalty decisions overturned at the Amex.

Alexander Isak salvaged an 89th-minute equaliser for Toon from the third spot-kick awarded by referee Craig Pawson.

But VAR had shown Pawson's two earlier penalty calls were wrong as Anthony Gordon was fouled outside the box and Jan Paul van Hecke did not make contact with Joe Willock.

Toon boss Howe said: "That's what VAR is there for. I'm happy for VAR to make those calls.
