Trainer's Big moment

MICK APPLEBY savoured the first domestic Group One triumph of his career as Big Mojo captured Haydock Park’s Sprint Cup at 16-1.

Appleby (inset right), known earlier in his career for winning humble races on the all-weather, showcased his skills at a higher level when Big Evs landed the Grade One Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint at Santa Anita in November 2023.

And the 55-year-old reached a new milestone as Big Mojo, carrying the same red-and-blue colours of owners Paul and Rachael Teasdale, and William Buick powered down the stands’ rail to beat Kind Of Blue by a length and a half, with French-trained even-money favourite Lazzat only fifth.
