Swan Lake's a fine romance

A love story as romantic yet poignant as Tchaikovsky's most famous ballet is being played out at a wetland paradise known as Swan Lake.

Galina and Grinner are wild Bewick’s swans and have delighted conservationists after taking up winter residency on the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust's famous Slimbridge reserve.

For Galina, her arrival on the banks of the River Severn is a new chapter of a remarkable life chronicled since she was colour-ringed as a cygnet by WWT field researchers in Arctic Russia's Pechora Delta more than 20 years ago.
