Toon striker woes go on but German lands in Nick of time

- David Anderson

IT is an open wound that has hurt them all summer but finally Newcastle have seized the initiative over Alexander Isak.

Nick Woltemade watched his new Newcastle teammates at Elland Road last night after sealing his move from Stuttgart in a club-record £69million deal.

And the Toon want to sign another striker before they will consider allowing Isak to join Liverpool.

They have had a £55m offer for Jorgen Strand-Larsen rejected by Wolves and a £40m bid for Yoane Wissa knocked back by Brentford.

Newcastle needed to act because they knew they were desperately short of firepower.

Anthony Gordon's red card against Liverpool meant Danish striker William Osula made his first Premier League start for Newcastle against Leeds last night, with Jacob Murphy up front alongside him.
