THE great man himself would have experienced very mixed emotions after the Sir Bobby Robson derby went the way of his boyhood favourites.

Delight at a Toon win that strengthens their Champions League prospects but despair that the club he led to European and FA Cup glory had their relegation confirmed.

Sir Bobby would at least have united with both sets of fans at the performance of referee Michael Salisbury who had a nightmare.

He disallowed a Bruno Guimaraes goal for an apparent push on keeper Alex Palmer and harshly booked Ben Johnson for diving which ultimately led to the full-back’s dismissal a few minutes later. Ipswich weren't too happy with the VAR-backed decision to award Newcastle a penalty in first-half injury time either.
