A GANGLAND hood has been jailed after a savage machete attack on a close pal of mobster Mark Richardson.

- BY JAMES MULHOLLAND

Arran Reid, 27, was caged for eight years and four months after he pled guilty to assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement and to danger of life at the High Court in Edinburgh.

David McMillan, 54, was targeted outside his home a plush Edinburgh suburb on the evening of May 22.

He was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary with serious injuries including a fractured skull.

It was the third time he had been targeted this year after his home and car were firebombed on April 17 and May 8.

Reid was arrested and charged as part of Police Scotland's Operation Portaledge.

The court heard how he and two associates emerged from a grey Range Rover Discovery with machetes in front of McMillan's home.

CCTV played to the court showed Reid and his accomplices rain blows on the victim's head and body using weapons.

Speaking about the attack, prosecutor David Dickson KC told the court the complainer began shouting: "You're going to kill me."
