Edinburgh boy Gray knows just what's at stake for Hibees

- BY GORDON PARKS

DAVID GRAY learned from his dad Peter that Edinburgh derby bragging rights are Monday morning gold dust.

The Hibs boss knows all about the consequences of failure against their rivals, having grown up in the city.

As the first collision of the season arrives this evening, Gray insists he's been steeped in this fixture since childhood.

And the high stakes at play have been drummed into him by his old man.

Gary said: "I grew up with Hibs and Hearts because I was raised in Edinburgh. So it wasn't about Rangers and Celtic where I'm from, it was just Hearts and Hibs.

"When I went down south to Manchester United, anyone you talked to about Scottish football spoke about Rangers and Celtic.

"I've got many friends from both sides of the fence. Some don't speak to me, some do speak to me. I know that's just the way it goes.

"Some will be quick on the phone on the Monday, and others will be firing abuse at me on Monday morning.

"They're brilliant fixtures to be involved in - because we're both such massive teams with fan bases that are passionate about the football clubs.
