Small boat arrival first returned to the French

THE first migrant under the new “one in, one out” deal was yesterday sent back to France.

The removal of the Indian national, who arrived in the UK by small boat last month, was described as an “important first step” by Keir Starmer.

The man was put on a flight at 6.15am, with the Home Office saying more will follow this week.

His deportation comes as the antislavery watchdog accused Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood of putting vulnerable lives at risk after she hit out at the High Court's decision to block a move to expel a man from Eritrea.
