MACCLESFIELD owner Rob Smethurst reckons he should have rounded off a four-day bender by buying a kebab rather than the Silkmen.

The businessman was struggling with addiction after selling his successful car-trading firm when he spotted the club's Moss Rose home on property website Rightmove.

It was up for sale for £500,000 in 2020 after the old Macclesfield Town had been liquidated and Smethurst - born in the town but not a football fan - went for it in a drunken haze.
