DRIVER TELLS HOW CAR HIT TREE

A RALLY driver dad cheated death after his car ploughed into a tree during a 100mph race.

Co-driver Michael Moates, who was left hanging upside down after the car careered off the track, spun, flipped and hit the tree, has told of his miracle escape.

The 24-year-old, of Aberdeen, broke his back and collar bone but a last-second spin prevented what would have been a fatal head-on collision.

The other driver, Justin Gunning, walked away unscathed. Emergency services rushed to the track near Ardtaraig, 10 miles from Dunoon, following the crash at the Argyll Rally on June 20.

The duo avoided a fireball with the tank and engine left intact.
