Under-pressure Mandelson set to lose title PM Starmer: He has let this country down

- BY ASHLEY COWBURN

OUT LORD

PETER Mandelson last night faced a criminal probe into allegations arising from the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Lord Mandelson, 72, is being investigated over claims he passed market-sensitive information to the billionaire paedophile.

As the Labour veteran quit the Lords, PM Keir Starmer sent evidence to police while ex-PM Gordon Brown accused the grandee of “an inexcusable and unpatriotic act”.

Police are also probing claims Epstein sent a woman to the UK in 2010 for a sexual encounter with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who denies any wrongdoing.

No10 is working to strip Mandelson, 72, of his peerage as the scandal engulfing the Labour veteran over the Jeffrey Epstein files ramps up.

Starmer has handed a dossier of evidence to the Metropolitan Police. Earlier, the PM said the former US ambassador had let Britain down, as he finally resigned from the House of Lords amid huge political pressure.

Downing Street has tasked officials with drafting legislation to strip the New Labour architect of his peerage as “quickly as possible”.

Ex-PM Gordon Brown accused Mandelson of “an inexcusable and unpatriotic act at a time when the whole government and country were attempting to address the global financial crisis damaging so many livelihoods”.
