Scots soaps queen looks to future

- RICK FULTON

RIVER City's cast and fans should accept it will be axed, insists soap star Natalie J Robb.

The 50-year-old is Scotland's queen of soaps having appeared in High Road, which was also axed and daytime's Doctors which ended last year. She has been in Emmerdale since 2009 as Moira Dingle.

BBC Scotland shocked the nation in March when they announced their flagship soap would end in Autumn 2026 after 24 years.

Since then, BBC bosses have been grilled by the Scottish Parliament and cast members including Stephen Purdon, the only original actor left in the soap, have protested at Holyrood.

But Natalie, from Bellshill, remembered the same outcry when High Road was first taken off the ITV network in 1993 and then eventually cancelled in 2003.

The actress said: "Every job that comes to an end is not good for anybody. It's job cuts.
