Pep's backing Foden to find the form that saw him fire City to title glory in 2023/24
-
PEP GUARDIOLA has backed Phil Foden to recover from last season's disappointing campaign and show "extraordinary" quality for Manchester City this term.
The 25-year-old was the cornerstone of City’s last Premier League title win, scoring 19 goals in 35 appearances to ensure Arsenal were pipped at the post.
However, he netted just seven times last term as Guardiola’s side finished third and failed to collect silverware for the first time since 2016-17.
After missing the openingday win over Wolves with an ankle issue, Foden is set to return against Tottenham today and his manager expects to see the best of him.
Guardiola said: “What can I say [about] Phil? The last Premier League we won, he was massively important. He was the best player in the Premier League. I remember the last game against West Ham, the two goals early.
“Phil is a top-class, he's an extraordinary player.
