A BRAVE shopkeeper has told how she tackled a brazen shoplifter on Hogmanay amid a crime surge threatening retail workers.

Nathalie Fullerton, who runs One Stop in Partick, Glasgow, "saw red" when the thief tried to run out of her shop with a £9 stash of booze.

The 42-year-old mum of three tackled the man at the door. The scuffle spilled out on to the street, where he dropped the stock and fled.

It comes just weeks after another man pulled a knife on her when she gave chase for stealing alcohol.

She spoke out after new figures highlighted a staggering 25 per cent increase in shoplifting crimes in Scotland this year.

Nathalie said: "I've had the shop for more than six years now. You get an instinct for when someone is being shifty or by what they're picking up.

"This guy had a four pack of Budweiser cans and a tin of Dragon Soop.

"I knew he was going to try and run. I just thought, 'No you're not getting away with this."

Nathalie, an ex-police officer, was captured on her CCTV cameras grabbing on to the thief as she was pulled along the street.
