Father's salesman patter was an education

HOLLYWOOD star Dougray Scott says he learned how to act by watching his dad sell fridges to customers.

The X-Men star, brought up in Glenrothes, said his father Allan's sales patter showed him how to perform.

The 60-year-old said: "He said something to me once that has always stayed in my head.

"He told me, 'Son, no one wants to buy a fridge from someone who's depressed. That's advice you could give to an actor.
