LOW-INCOME Scots will be hit by higher council tax bills after the SNP government scraps the two-child benefit cap.

LOW-INCOME Scots will be hit by higher council tax bills after the SNP government scraps the two-child benefit cap.

Up to 30,000 households could have their bills recalculated because higher benefit payments for their kids will be treated as income.

Families will receive nearly £300 a month per eligible child when SNP ministers lift the two-child cap next year.

John Swinney’s administration stepped in after Keir Starmer’s government kept the Tory benefit curb in place.

But the policy could see families lose parts of another benefit because of the complexities of the social security system.

Scots with lower household incomes can receive a council tax reduction (CTR) of up to 100 per cent.
