Oldest victim of Post Office scandal finally gets compo

THE oldest surviving victim of the Post Office Horizon IT scandal says she can now turn her heating on after finally reaching a compensation settlement.

Betty Brown, 92, got her cash this week, ending her 26-year wait.

The former postmistress said: "I can settle up my affairs. I can turn the heating up full blast, and that will be wonderful."

Betty, who ran the Annfield Plain Post Office in County Durham with her late husband Oswall, used up £50,000 of life savings covering shortfalls that never existed.

She said she can now look to the future and praised campaign hero Sir Alan Bates, 71, for not giving up.
