Janet Street-Porter on age, rage and ruffling feathers

- BY SHELLEY SPADONI

JANET Street-Porter is so unashamedly honest, witty and entertaining that you wish you could spend days, not hours, in her company.

Described on her own website as “the nation’s favourite p***ed-off pensioner”, this is a woman with plenty of stories to tell.

The Loose Women stalwart, who turns 80 next year, spills the beans on her recent surgery and her riotous UK tour, Off The Leash.

Janet says she is truly on the way to becoming a bionic woman after recently having her right knee done following a hip replacement last year and left knee surgery in 2017.

Up on her feet just two hours after her latest op, she tells us: “I was walking to the loo without a stick, waving my arms around and showing off.

“I'm walking around fine but at night the nerve pain is shocking. Really bad.

“I'm putting loads of ice on it but... you've just got to tough these things out.

“You can either turn into someone who sits there and looks backwards, or embrace getting older, talk about the downsides but celebrate the upsides.

I still hate those health pages (in newspapers).

“I read them then start ranting. But a rant is good for the soul.”

With her milestone birthday coming up in December 2026, Janet says she is unsure how she feels about hitting such an age.
