Government bows to anger over single carriageways 50mph law

A PLAN to reduce the speed limit on single carriageway roads in Scotland from 60 to 50mph has been dropped by the SNP Government following a public backlash.

Transport chiefs confirmed today they had ditched the proposals which they previously claimed would improve road safety.

But business groups in the north of Scotland warned the move would harm connectivity between rural communities and put them at a disadvantage.

More than 19,500 responses were received after Transport Scotland launched a consultation on the issue earlier this year.
